Rules

The Peach Classic is a Triathlon BC sanctioned event.
ITU & Triathlon BC rules in effect. Participants, please read and be familiar with the rules below:

SWIM COURSE LENGTH - 1.5 K

  1. Each swimmer must wear a numbered swim cap provided by the race and must be visible during swim portion.
  2. Wet suits will be allowed according to ITU rules.
  3. Goggles or face masks may be worn.
  4. No individual escort vessels allowed. Course will be adequately patrolled.
  5. Any assistance required during the swim will result in disqualification, unless a problem is encountered during the swim start, in which case, an athlete may return to the beach for assistance from race officials without penalty other than elapsed time.
  6. After the swim, contestants may change beside their bike. A change area will be available if needed. NO PUBLIC NUDITY PLEASE.
  7. Wet suit strip will NOT be provided.
  8. The swim course closes 1 hour after the final wave start. Contestants still on the swim course after that time will be disqualified and removed from the course.

BIKE COURSE LENGTH - 40 K

  1. ANSI or SNELL approved helmet is required during entire race. The helmet must be completely fastened in place before mounting the bike and leaving the transition area. The helmet must be left fastened and kept in place until you have dismounted the bike and entered the transition area upon your return. Helmet violations will result in immediate disqualification.
  2. Absolutely no drafting another bike or any other vehicle is allowed. A space of at least 7 meters must be left between riders. Drafting will be defined as the maintenance of a static distance of less than 7 meters between riders. You may enter this space only to pass a rider ahead, and so long as you continue to overtake the rider ahead. The maximum time allowed to pass through the zone is 15 seconds. If you are passed you must either proceed to overtake the rider ahead or drop back to allow a distance of 7 meters. Riding side by side is also considered drafting.
    • YELLOW PENALTY - The competitor will have his/her number called & be shown a yellow card. (time penalty)
    • RED PENALTY - (to be assessed by the referee after the race). Competitor will be disqualified. NOTE: To argue with, or swear at a Marshall will result in a red penalty. 3 yellow penalties will be grounds for a assessing a red penalty.
  3. Bikes are absolutely not allowed to cross the center line into oncoming traffic. Violations of this rule will be strictly enforced and will result in disqualification from the race.
  4. Race number must be worn at all times while on the course. Alteration of any kind to the number is strictly prohibited.
  5. Bikes used in the race must first pass inspection of the race officials. Race official inspectors will have final decision as to acceptability of bikes and devices designed exclusively to reduce resistance.
  6. All bikes must start the race carrying at least one full water bottle. There will be no aid stations on the bike course. No individual support is allowed. Support of any type is not allowed to pace, pass food or other items to athletes.
  7. Each participant is individually responsible for repair and maintenance of your bike. Outside assistance is not permitted.
  8. Bikers are individually responsible to follow traffic laws and are solely responsible for the consequences of any violation. Course marshals will be stationed at most intersections. However, bikers are still responsible for their own safety. Ride with your head up.
  9. You must have completed the swim and bike portion in a time of 3:15 or less.

RUN COURSE LENGTH - 10 K

  1. No form of locomotion is allowed other than running or walking.
  2. Race number must be worn at all times while on the course. Run number must be placed on front of runner where it is clearly visible. Alteration of any kind to the number is strictly prohibited.
  3. No outside support is allowed. Aid stations will be available in Transition and on the course at approximately 2.0 k, 3.0 k, 3.5 k, and 4.5 k, and 5 k. As this is an out and back course, aid will be available at 5.5 k, 6.5 k, 7.0 k, and 8.0 k.
  4. Runners MUST keep to the side of the road and cross only where directed.
  5. Runners are expected to follow directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities.
  6. The course closes 4.5 hours after the final wave start. Contestants still on the course after that time will be disqualified and removed from the course.

RULES APPLYING TO ALL SEGMENTS OF RACE, GIVEN RACE RUNS UNDER ITU AND TRI BC RULES

  1. Race officials and Race Jury shall have the authority to disqualify or penalize participants.
  2. Medical personnel shall have ultimate and final authority to remove a participant from the race if the participant is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury
  3. Good sportsmanship is expected of all contestants.
  4. If contestant decides to withdraw from the race at any time, it is the responsibility of the contestant to notify the timing officials in the Transition area. Failure to notify timing after withdrawing from the race will result in contestant being prevented from competing in this event in the future. Athletes will be charged for lost or replaced timing chips.
  5. Any infraction of the rules may be grounds for penalty or disqualification, decision of the Race Officials and Race Jury will be final.
  6. No Walkman's, radios, or devices which interfere with hearing will be allowed on the course.

July 20, 2009 - Great race everyone! Results are up!

July 8, 2009 - Ross Hales, Aqua Sphere is going to be on hand Saturday July 18th with the new Ironman Wetsuits and offering a wetsuit try on and swim session at Okanagan Beach at 8 AM/3 PM for those that would like to see the new suits and try them for themselves. Support our Swim Course Sponsor!
