I spent a few quality nights in the 2 existing bars and one Elks Club in Cordova, Alaska. One time I was shooting pool and drinking beer at one of the bars and all of the sudden the bartender starts yelling my name from accross the room. I was like WTF? The soon to be EX had looked the place up (from Dallas) and called it by chance finding me there. 8)

I haven't spent any time in the interior, only on the coast. I hear Denali is worth it, but the mosquitoes are epic. If you go to southeat (Juneau, Skagway, Glacier NP) bring rain gear. Good rain gear. I loved Skagway esp in the evenings when people went back to their cruise ships. Someday I want to hike the Chilkoot. I also want to go to Katmi and watch the bears.

Joe - My number 1 must do for Alaska would be a day cruise up to the glaciers and whales. Good stuff. Find someone with a SMALL boat. You do NOT want a giant tourist boat with 300 blue hairs from the cruise ship. I'd also recommend checking out a bar or 2 in a small town. I've had some really funny good times in bars in Alaska. Also good is going down to the docks to get some seafood right off the boat. Hubby and I had the best fried halibut on the spit in Homer. Sea kayaking is awesome - got some up close and personal time with a harbor seal in Glacier NP in a kayak. Alaska beer is good. Salmon rocks.

Kona is so tough because everyone is fast. It's a mind game and folks go too hard early and blow to bits. It's very hot and often windy but only 4500 feet of elevation gain. St George is 45-60min slower than Kona for an average AG qualifier (that's a pretty fast athlete) and had over 8000 feet of elevation gain. Badge of courage, mang!

I really need to find an IM early in the year. I don't mind training over the winter, but as soon as it's nice out, I'm waaaaay more interested in soaring and playing in the sun. I thought I'd be okay doing IMCdA at the end of June, but the big training is right when the season's best soaring is. I was crazy to think IMC would even happen. IMAZ in April used to be great. Too bad it's now November. Sigh.

There is about 17k less in the Schwab accounts so I said: "I'll make you a deal. How 'bout I Grudge F the S out of you and then I will think about it." She did not think it was funny. ...At all. I just thought I would go out with a bang you know. Like it didnt hurt to ask. So she's gonna swap over 17k into the Schwab account instead. She could have made 17k the hard way but HEY...her loss right? 8)

It probably close to the feeling of going down Richter pass in the rain with a gusting side wind. You know your OK within limits and constantly adapt to the changing conditions. Of course that only takes 15 minutes or so in stead of a couple of hours :-)

KP: somewhere in between. I laugh a lot in an OMG! way. Basically total focus, alert and watching for any rogue waves. We got hit a by a couple of broadsides which threw the boat over about 15 degrees for a second which sort of stops your heart. Probably the most nervous when running with waves. Then you lose your rudder (since there is no water flowing past it)and you have to rely on the props for steerage. The cool thing however was going down into the engine compartment and listening. The 427's just ran smooth as silk. Since its a plank boat you keep an eye on the bilge pump light to ensure you aren't taking on too much water (you always take on a little).

IO, that is CRAZY stuff! When you are in conditions like that do you feel heavy stress or is it more of an inconvenience? On the bike strong winds are an inconvenience but 40-50mph gusts make me very nervous.

we were the race committee boat for a race to and from Port Townsend. On Saturday none of the 130 boats that started finished (due to lack of winds, then adverse currents in spite of good wind) On Sunday, 80 boats started against the the ebb current from 8 AM until 1 PM, they then lost wind at about 8-9 miles (while fighting a 3 -4 knot current sweeping them out to Victoria). The gales started about 2PM at about mile 10. Only 13 boats made the 13 mile mark by 3:30 PM. Only 3 boats finsihed the entire race by 7:00PM. The fastest was a 72 foot Santa Cruz which is a Swiftsure competitor. They left at 10:29 and were expected to finish by 1:30. They finished at 6:30. So not a great day to be in a sailboat.

Had to drive the boat back from Port Townsend yesterday. Gale force winds 2-5 foot wind waves, plow through at 60 degree angle for 15 miles. The pilothouse in about 11 feet high. There were times when I know the boat dissappeared under the spray. One of the few times when I have been thankful that I had twin 325HP Ford 427's. Steady 2800 RPM's to drive the boat 12 knots through the swells. 40 gallons of gas in 3 hours (to go 30 miles.) More power!

My two trips to StG on the bike (Nov/May) and I've seen most there is to see. Two words to describe; tough _but_ fair. That means downhills follow climbs and there are enough climbs that dradting isn't an issue. Only the determined should apply. A 10:45 IM athlete at IMCdA might expect 11:35 if you execute well on the bike and can be a grueller the last 13.1 miles of thw run. Interrestingly, both examples of performance (IMCdA, IMStG) were 2nd place AG F40-44 finishes and rewarded a Kona slot. Time isn't everything. It's relative. As well, nobody raced well without a solid plan to execute. I personally know two guys/gals at ourt StG training camp in Nov that killed it. They knew stuff. They are going to Kona bay-beee.

Hanging in St George, Utah. This is one tough race. The climate is volatile (hot, cold, gale force wind, rain, (and that's just 48hrs), the water is cold, the course wicked (run even more than bike). If you want a challenge and are into relative performance over fast races this place _rules_.

Calling TLP (Tri Lounge People) ...( or Texas Latex Party if that applies). I'm taking part in The Ride to Conquer Cancer Benefiting BC Cancer Foundation on June, 19-20, 2010. The Link to my donation page is http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Vancouver2010/171861431?px=2284518&pg=personal&fr_id=1331 . I am over half way to my goal of fundraising $2500. Your Help would be greatly appreciated. If you're not sure how much to donate and you enjoy a little gambling I would like to suggest the following: A Canadian friend of mine is taking part in the Wildflower Triathlon this weekend in the Elite Women's race. I see her training once a week at one of my swim workouts and I'ld like to encourage her to have a great race. Her name is Magali Tisseyre. If she comes in first place you can agree to donate $100 on my fundraising page. If she comes in second place donate $50 and if she comes in 3rd place or higher donate $25. If you are into this I'll be sure to mention your generosity to Magali. If you're going to be watching the race in person please cheer her on. Thanks

The other day, hubby and I saw a car that had gone off an exit ramp and tore the bumper off the car. Standing next to the banged up car was a little old Asian woman on her cell phone. Hubby and I thought of a conversation we had with Manny and Rap and laughed. The end.

Listening to a MS Live Meeting for some training. The instructor just said "interwebs". I thought of Tina and laughed. The end.

Drew, my parents were going to take Vaughan's mum up to Vancouver for a wee side trip when we were in Portland but I think we will have time and maybe we will all come up that way as well. Our main consideration is not wanting to have the girls couped up in a car all day, every day, we are on all holiday!
