We're also doing a global Live Earth run for water (only 6km though!) On April 18th, including some in SA. Since we were here for World Cup stuff, we decided to visit with 2 of the charities we're working with on Live Earth to see what they're really doing. Hence the trip to Malawi.

Boop of Malawi email: @: Today's report from Malawi....mostly for Tina! We went out with Raising Malawi (Madonna's charity) and visited a community center that serves 10,000 people and is very nice except that they have no electricity and no running water. We're putting them together with Pump Aid tomorrow to see if that can be remedied. THen we went to the Mchinji orphanage (where Madonna adopted her kids). Reminded me of Boys Town in Omaha. 650 kids living in this compound. They just upgraded the boys dorms but the girls are living 8-10 to a room. The entire room is full of bunk beds. No room for anything else. We ended the day visiting a crisis center for infants whose mothers died in childbirth. The youngest was 7 days old and the oldest 18 months. THey stay for 1 year and then they have to go back to extended family in their villages or to an orphanage. Tomorrow we go to a medical clinic about an hour away and then it's off to the airport to start my 30+ hour journey home. What an amazing experience. I've posted a few pics on Facebook and have tons more that I'll post when I get home.
