MONDAY, December 7, 2009 - The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau, fueled by Monster Energy, will NOT run today. Contest Director George Downing is at Waimea Bay monitoring conditions, and has said he will have a close eye on conditions mid-afternoon today that will be his indicator for tomorrow. At present, a heavy fog of salt mist generated by extra large waves of around 18 feet, mixed with light rain and cloud cover, blankets the North Shore. A solid stream of curious onlookers has been cruising Kamehameha Highway since before dawn. An update will be issued at 4pm Hawaii time (a few minutes ago!) this-afternoon. Log on to find out the call.

There has been an incident. Not sure of the specifics, but based on the evidence and the amount of noise created, my boy cat got stuck in a plastic bag and hurt himself trying to get free. I drank Fat Tire beer from 5 to 10pm and then thought I was getting all risque by switching to one glass of red Cab. Then next thing I know somain brings by a huge round of Lemon Drop shots and I havta drink mine and all those of people who didn't drink their shots. That was so good so I sponsored an equal round of Purple Hooters with same results. Minutes later someone yells "SLIPPERY NIPPLES!!!" and another round gets done. it gets a little blurry from there but luckily it all ended at 4am so I could still get a little beauty sleep....

AMEN!! "The study suggests that marriage -- often touted as the best lifetime relationship goal -- may not be best for everyone, said Patrick Markey, an associate professor of psychology at Villanova University in Villanova, Pa. For most people, marriage might be a desirable goal, he said. "But there might be a subset of people, the ultra-independent individual, for whom this may not be the best life course." He's referring to those people who Bookwala found high in self-sufficiency. "They might actually be happier because they didn't get married," Markey said."

what I really need to do is dig up the link that NPR has somewhere for handmade knitted chicken sweaters. First heard about it on "wait Wait ..." of course! :-)

The title of the article is completely misleading and inaccurate based on the content of the article itself.

That doesn't actually prove there were no chickens (or chicken ancestors) here thousands of years ago. That article just states there is record of them being brought here prior to times on earlier record.

Illinois geese don't fly south anymore. They gather in the suburbs and live off the grass, cornfield remnants and whatever the goofy public puts out for the poor freezing geese. In return, they amass piles of goose sh!t in our yards, parks, and public places.

i remember reading it in the NYT - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/05/science/05chic.html and theres a reason why geese fly south other than to look really cool flying in big Vee's.

poor little girl, she's sitting out in the sun but was shivering a bit; I really think she needs to come inside, but cousin keeps reminding me that "chickens have survived for thousands of years living outside. In Minnesota." LOL!!

When I got up this morning at 6:30 it was 9 degrees outside; I still need to go out there and check to see that she's not a chick-sicle.

Swooshie, pluck her (job sounds like it's half done already), dress her, and place her along 3 similarly prepared Cornish hens in the oven at 375 degrees. No one will notice and she'll be plenty warm...and tasty! ;-) Win-win.

Had a big dog charge me while running last weekend. I heard it coming behind me and was worried until I saw that it was a black lab with a ball in its mouth.
