IMC Swim: I must have pulled my QR quick release zipper up too far, because it decided to release between the houseboats. I reached back and felt the velcro neck still intact, but my bargelike profile became a barge taking in water. Then 100 meters around turn 2, *SNAP*, the velcro breaks free. My first thought? Interesting fact for the day: From the minute a widow-maker hits, you have a five-minute window of time to get to a hospital or receive emergency care .A widow-maker is a nickname used to describe a highly stenotic left main coronary artery or proximal left anterior descending coronary artery of the heart. This term is used because if the artery gets abruptly and completely occluded it will cause a massive heart attack that will likely lead to death.

Update on IMC - according to paper today the swimmer was a 66 year old male, experienced fitness fanatic. Lifeguards spotted the person struggling on the final leg and veered off course away from the other swimmers. He was attended to by an escort kayaker and given immediate medical attention. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. This is the first fatality in the 27 years of the competition.

I'd love to sign up for IMC, but think any aspirations of returning to tris are going to have to wait yet awhile, due to both school and with Mom's health. But, hey, maybe we can go up to watch and volunteer.

Hey Al - thanks! I'll check that website out, b/c nursing text books are really expensive and oftentimes,we end up not having to use the entire book. Even buying them at half.com used is spendy..

IMC UPDATE: Really tough conditions out there today. Not only was it hot and windy at times, but the air quality was awful. Apparently some fires burning in Washington State created smoky conditions so bad that you couldn't see the mountains from the lake by midday. The smoke really made me and Ms. Patty Party suffer today, but we made it to the finish line. This was the hardest race I've done here, and I really appreciate all the great support today on the page. As for Fred, I saw Fred at the top of Yellow Lake, he looked strong, but never saw him again the rest of the day.
