OK Excel fans...venting...I sent my registration files on 1750 athletes before chelanMan in an Excel file. Critical element is DOB for age-group assignement (like duh!). So By Sunday its clear there is a cluster*uck. For some reason the DOB is changing by 4 years and a day. I do not lose it at the race, but was very intense as its clear results are screwed up. Timing company waits for each racer to notify them of the problem. I am on the phone after a week saying its clear that its a systemic problem, and its their problem to fix. They're saying I sent them a bad file. So I discover that if you send an xls file, or an xlsx file, Apple computers change the DOB becuase of their algorithm. I did not know they were using apples. They don't buy it. But then I discover a save feature which saves and xls as Macintosh.CSV. I figure if there is no problem, why would this feature be needed. They spent this weekend fixing all of the results. So they send me the update results files in xls. I open their file. I open my windows xls copy the DOB and paste it beside their file to check for accuracy. I watch it the paste change the date before my eyes. To test the hypothesus I save my original xls file as mac .csv then copy and paste. It pastes with no change. confirmed. So I call the dude this morning thinking they might want to be aware of the fix and issue. In a world is flat apporach they still claim I sent them a bad file, because this problem had only happened a few times in the past. ARGHHH!!!

Diet Coke- a slow death by chemical that acidifies yer teeth and acts like a sweatner in yer body and keeps you fat and highly sodiumated. Cable- bad. Diet Coke- bad. Which one is worse bad?

It's going to be March 21, 2010, and registration opens in Sept. I have school that Fri/Sat but I just might have to run it because of the cool course. It's also 1 week prior to Cali 1/2.

My guess is that it's a non-poisionous grass or gopher snake: 1) because of its size; 2) because it hasn't bitten you yet; 3) because if it's acting like a rattler with a shaking tail but is not a rattler it is not poisionous because it would not have to act like a poisionous snake if indeed it had venom of its own and could just use said venom instead of going through the motions of rattling a rattleless tail. My guess is that the tail shaking act did its job because something much bigger stopped to think about the rattling motion before it touched or harmed said otherwise defensless snake. Just think what a small mammal would think aboot said fake rattle. YER WELCOME! But a photo may be better for my analysis, jus saying, ya know, before ya touch it again and it bites you and kills you. Prudent.

asking because I just found a 3 foot snake huddling in my yard (right next to my sleeping spot dammit!) and I am pretty certain it's not a rattlesnake; I poked it with a stick and it stuck its tongue out at me, then i took my finger and rubbed it on its back and it shook its tail at me. but it isn't moving at all like a rattler would... but since i don't know what it is I want to be sure it's not poisonous anyway. I could send any snake experts a picture of it .... Sissy?!!

I remember when they changed the guided tours on the Inca Tral to Machu Picchu to 4 days from 3. It is about 24 miles. Not sure why, maybe because it was so crowded. Some of the locals run it in the off season, they probably did it without water. Been about 12 years since I was last there. When I read Rita's adventures it reminds me of years of trekking High in the Andes in Peru. searching out ruins on the tops of the local hills (hills ya right) making fish and chips from the local potatos and fish from the streams. Hiking up past former land slides that are unfathonable in size (look up Salcantay on google and look at the slides on each side and the glacial lakes). The air so pristine. So much to see. Thanks for all the memory flashbacks Rita. Colca canyon, Maria Reichand, flying over the Nazca Lines, 3 levels of underground irrigation that runs thru the worlds dryest desert, the highest sand dunes. I shall return

Congratulations Laura !! Yesterday evening I found a HUGE caterpillar eating the leaves on one of my tomato plants. This thing was the size of my index finger. It scared me; I could see it's teeth! Of course I took a picture of it, then decided it would be a good snack for the chickens. They love potato bugs, but they wouldn't touch this thing! they all gathered around and just stared at it and then started clucking and ran away. I decided it must be an evil alien and thought the only way to destroy it would be to put it in a bucket and drown it. So I did that, except, when it literally started trying to bob its head above the water line and gasp for air, I felt bad, so took it out of the bucket and instead walked into the desert and left it there .... I imagine it's crawled half-way back to my garden by now .... LOL!

E, LOL! A couple of years ago my then neighbor was building a gazebo. He had a beautiful table saw that was so quiet and so well balanced you almost couldn't tell it was on. While I worked on my bikes in the garage 2 doors down from him on a rainy afternoon, I heard a blood curdling scream. In a moment of unprecedented spaciness, he had removed the blade guard and lightly placed his hand on the moving blade to make sure it was running. He lost most of Mr. Pinky, half of Mr Ringman, the distal phalanx of Mr. Tallman and part of Mr. Pointer.
