What's cool about this non-profit is that it was started by a mother and daughter who had visited over there and were so totally moved. This np started in 1998 (?) and has about 15 people on the board and/or steering committee and 3 paid employees (I think they are paid anyway). My guess is that their organization is growing and is at the point where it needs to be run like a 'business' so that it can continue to keep growing. Most people who start non-profits really don't dig the business side of it, but I TOTALLY DO!!!! AND...it would be my first official step into the realm of solving global poverty (even if just in a few villages here and there :-)

Even if you take AC out of it, lots of those skinny boys climb a whole lot better than Lance. But AC can time trial and wearing yellow makes you time trial faster. Just look at Sastre.

Lance got nothin'. Shelled look on his face and muttering about missing something at the top end...he's done. Unless AC falls and breaks a leg. Look at the replay--he's got this blank stare thinking, "Don't you leave me, Kloden--you just keep doing the tempo!"

You know both AC and LA had an agreement to not attack each other in the mountains so if Lance decides to make a go at a stage win then Contador must sit in. Plus if Lance attacks you know all of the other high GC guys are going to go so that would seemingly be working in AC's favor to wear down his biggest competitors. Coy stuff. I believe that this is all kind of playing in Lance's favor. Unless Contador can handle up on the attacks time and time again and then ride a strong TT. Which is also possible. 8)

Date: Monday July 20th, 2009 13:47 Comment 189615

I know one damn thing I wouldnt want the Yellow jersey on the first alps day and have to defend it for the rest of the alps days witha group of people that could possibly put you in a world of hurt by the last day.

Thanks Alynn ! I'm still at home! We got ready to get out, but the sheriff never came down our street. So we waited and watched, kept an eye on the wind, and eventually saw some flames coming over the crest; lots of thunder for quite a while. Then, most of the fire crews left, while helicopters came around dumping water onto the flames on the hillside. They died down to what looks like just a smoldering field and then about 1/2 an hour ago we got a big dump of rain for about 15 minutes. We just heard on the scanner a report that the fire 1 mile south of us is now contained. But I'm not planning on unpacking anything yet !

Thanks E. We aren't seeing any flames at all, but (we are geeks and have the scanner going) heard there is a new start, and that is looking quite ugly. If we see flames come over the crest then we've got about 1/2 mile. Anyway, the bulldozer and firetrucks have mostly been in place since they arrived. We figured that if it was getting close enough then the bulldozer would be busy doing something. Forest Service trucks have driven past our backyard through the desert a bit, and, the firetrucks did go out to our neighbors' house about 1/4 mile away; I am pretty sure they are in the backcountry right now unfortunately. Anyway, they were definitely doing some clearing around their place. Our neighbors have driven out their horses and mules; and yes, I'm afraid the chickens would be left on their own. well, i might grab one of 'em.

Swooshie! Fire bad. Fire beds down at night and kicks up in the afternoon. You probably won't get a drive by knock on the door until fire is imminent. it sounds like they are deploying fire break assets ahead of the fire if buldozers are staged on your street. Depending on the rate of spread you may be okay today and tonight. Watch for an update tonight or tomorrow morning and anticipate what the fire could do tomorrow afternoon. If so, get out early and patiently. No mad dashes. Don't wait till the fire is near. Don't know how you evac chickens but good luck. Usually we would tell people to evac pets and horses/livestock only. Chickens should probably just stay unfortunately. I guess you could box them but hotels and evac centers won't let you have them. They have better odds in the coop because crews will protect structures almost at any cost. If you set them free critters will feast on em and they will not out waddle a fire. Put all your explosive or dangerous goods like propane bbq or light fluid in a small pile in a clear area like your driveway. Crews will appreciate it or most likely do it for you once you are gone...;ust before they fire line all the landscaping around your house. :)
