I don't think so. Expensive, yes. Wasteful no. It was a training run for the rescue team. If they don't practice emergency coordination, communication and search or escue tactics they won't have much chance of success when they have a real manhunt or rescus of a handicapped child who doesn't want to be found. Kind of like a military operation.

swoosh! If you watched TV for any reason (I know this is pure fantasy) Survivorman is a show you might enjoy. In this episode, Les gets lost up in a rough part of the Sierra's for a week (on purpose). Then, the search and rescue teams try to finds him. Horses, dogs, ATV's, hikers, even a helo. Meanwhile Les is trying not to be found. Cool concept. He films much of it with a hand held recorder.

Noel, in all seriousness, I'd love to race IMC again. I just don't know if I can ever achieve that level of fitness again. But, if that isn't in the cards, there is always working in a medical tent. :-) And, we are definitely going to be up North again, as we are planning on a move back to S.D. after n-school, and there is this canoe spot near Thunder Bay, that might require us to buy a little land...;-)

Hey Noel..thanks! Who knows? Maybe after school, will be able to go back to IMC, but, that'd take alot of work on the zippiness for it to happen. But, if not as a competitor, as a volunteer! Hey Laura, I was re-reading TriBaby's 98 IMC race report, and I forgot she mentioned seeing you zipping past her up Richter. Can't wait for you to come back to IMC!! For anyone lacking motivation, this is a must read. I was too late registering for 98 and didn't get in. That would have been my first IM, and I'm sure my last (had I survived it). There's a saying in Nursing: "Nurses eat their young". Today, I experienced it. It was not fun being munched upon, in fact, it necessitated my taking a stance and letting a night nurse know that I wouldn't tolerate being yelled at in front of others for something that I did not do. And, my manager had my back..so that was good. :-) Munch not on an iron woman! :-)

Yeah. I'm pretty sad right now. He has bouts of pain for say 2 minutes or so then it goes away. Sporatically happens about every 1-3 hours. It just breaks my heart that I can't do anything about it except hold him until it goes away and I/we are going to have to go a month longer till his surgery. We took him in on monday and they did the blatter/liver test were they go in with a catheter/dye (sp?) They gave him some kind of anthstesia with a mask and he went to sleep. That is hard for me. It just tears me to pieces. All of his tests have come back clean for the last week so we have been wondering wtf is going on? At least now the Doc says its a textbook case and he knows this is it. 8)

It turned out I was innaccurate :-) The bill was passed on July 2nd, the actual declaration dated the fourth, but most didn't actually sign it until August second. Meanwhile 3 presidents including the author died on July 4th. So we could call it Dead Presidents day. John Adams, Thomas Jefferson died on the same day and then James Monroe died five years later.

I managed to make a 222km flight on friday afternoon. Challenging west winds on the main return flight. Lower maximum height restrictions closer to Calgary left little room for flexibility / error. Lots of short, quick climbs to stay under the cap and not have to land in some farmers field. Very fun afternoon. Made it west deep into the foothills, about 3 miles from the mountain faces twice. You can view the flight trace here: http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/gliding/flightinfo.html?flightId=520299229

Here's the story of how the dog - it's extremely extremely sad. Jean (dog's owner) was a friend of mine and our dog's loved each other. Now, being able to care for Miya just TOTALLY feels so right :-) http://www.twincities.com/ci_12695714?source=rss_viewed
