I agree with the Supreme court. Congress needs to be responsible and the line item is only a reaction of the symptom of congressmen not taking the Nation's interest foremost. It used to be that senators were the bastion we relied on to support the concept of the good of the whole. That's been set aside as well in the interest of partisen politics.

At this point all we can do is learn from Karl Rove and Dick Cheney (or attempt prosecute them). "the premise requires the court, congress and the president behave as adults". That is CLASSIC. Couldn't agree more. Still, I think we should work within the Constitution and The Bill of Rights.

Karl Rove and Dick Cheney would not have appreciated Madison's perspective. However the premise requires the court, congress and the president behave as adults. Not likely. Plus Madison didn't quite get the Bill of Rights.

Hellooo Artie, my friendini! I agree that the majority of locals like their reps. That's precisely (this is my view not necessarily yours) one of the major flaws in the current political system. This is demonstrated so clearly on the state level in California. Gerrymandering (the form of redistribution in which electoral district or constituency boundaries are deliberately modified for electoral advantage) makes it nearly impossible for a party to lose in the area. As such, the fringe of either party become increasingly powerful because candidates of the same party must pander to them to win election. The result is a legislature that tries to appease the 10% on either side of the process in order to be re-elected. Sadly, the 80% of the rest of us who agree on nearly everything of real importance are left less than satisfied. Of course locals reps are popular on the stae and federal levels. They are full of pork :-)

I am undecided about the line item. Here our governor has a line item and in the past governors have removed a word or line that changed the meaning of the original bill. This lead to the headline "Thompson's Pen is a Sword" with little spacing between "pen" and "is".

Actually, KP, polls show that even though the approval rating for congress as a whole is very low, most people like the Congressperson or Senator from their district or state. On the other hand, recent polls show approval ratings for KP stay constantly high, on or off the bike.

I'm not happy about line item veto for any President. I'd like to see more responsible action from both parties of Congress so that it wouldn't be such a concern. How crazy would that be? A congress that actually represented the 70-80% of us who are continually unhappy with them.

Although Presidents in both parties seem to ignore the constitution when it is convenient, I read comments below by James Madison, considered to be the "Father of the Constitution" and it's principal author. In 1788, he wrote over a third of the Federalist Papers, still the most influential commentary on the Constitution: Friday, February 1, 1788. Author: James Madison. To the People of the State of New York: Having reviewed the general form of the proposed government and the general mass of power allotted to it, I proceed to examine the particular structure of this government, and the distribution of this mass of power among its constituent parts. One of the principal objections inculcated by the more respectable adversaries to the Constitution, is its supposed violation of the political maxim, that the legislative, executive, and judiciary departments ought to be separate and distinct. In the structure of the federal government, no regard, it is said, seems to have been paid to this essential precaution in favor of liberty. The several departments of power are distributed and blended in such a manner as at once to destroy all symmetry and beauty of form, and to expose some of the essential parts of the edifice to the danger of being crushed by the disproportionate weight of other parts. No political truth is certainly of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty, than that on which the objection is founded. The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.

For accuracy, that should read "popliteal" vein and artery. I suggest you let do some active release on that leg and you will be swell pronto. Short of that you could lay back, put on some of that killer music Brain shared in celebration of your birthday and attempto to treat it yourself by pointing your toes, grabbing the muscle below where it is sorest and traction upward (proximally). At the same time push your toes from the pointed position into dorsiflexon as far as possible. Repeat several times moving your contact up the calf each time.

Hey mangala -- I think you said it was mid calf and deep. In the calf the Soleus is deep to the more superficial Gastrocnemius. The gastroc crosses the knee where the soleus does not. The soleus may stay in a state of constant tension when you are standing or sitting if your feet are weight bearing. It (soleus) is shortest when your toes are pointing down (plantar flexed) and longest when your toes are brought up (dorsi flexed). If there was a tear or strain you would expect increased deep calf pain with standing or weight bearing and when your toes were fully dorsi flexed. The gastorc more often gives pain behind the knee in full leg extension where is it is in contact with the hamstring (specifically the biceps femoris and the semimembranosis). If you get soft tissue work done to help alleviate your injury it’s best to keep the knee in slight flexion (slightly bent) as that will reduce gastroc tension and allow your doc or therapist to get deeper to the soleus. One other thing; the soleus has a tendinous arch through which travel the posterior tibial nerve (a big guy) and the popiteal vein and artery. They can be compressed by adhesion – or by outside compression (treatment). Hope this helps brocious!

calf update- now when I saty horizontal and let the blood drain from the leg the calf feels good with only minimal pain when it's superflexed with toes all the way up. The pressure feeling is all gone. However, when I get up and walk as little as across the house for 2 minutes, the pressure returns and the calf hurts even w/o flexing of any kind. I then lie down and 15 minutes later it's all clear and pain goes away. It's the weirdest thing ever. Good news is it's not as severe as yesterday. Bad news is that it is still there. Am I dying?

At the same time, I try to drag Rafe into the gutter--pollute his mind and body by every means at hand. It's a battle of wills. The only thing certain is, Aero is dickish at best, a douche at worst, and dumb at all times. I will prevail. I have beer on my side. I dunno.

I just finished a 4 mile walk/run in hilly, Lake G. See, when you are out of shape, running in cold is problematic, because you can't run long enough to stay warm, cool down too fast. But, it is nice enough today to manage w/o freezing. Spring is on the way folks!!!

Well, an internet diagnosis is worth the keyboard it's typed on. Besides, you know what CLM or the Czar would probably say: E - get off those pansy ass randomee skis and strap that calf onto yer bike and pedal until it falls off. Or something like that.

E - If JD was around, here's what he'd say: Go try and rub one out with your prosthetic arm. If you don't have blood to reach full turgidity-ness, your blood's pooling in the wrong spot. You're welcome. :o)

Haven't you guys figured out that you are my doctor? I am checking it out, kinda, in the Loung. I don like hospitals and yes they might stick something up my butt...so I don wanna go until I'm sure. He's jus gonna like touch my calf, ask me a lotta questions, stick somethin up my ass and then tell me to "monitor" it and call if it gets worse or doesn't go away. When my dick turns blue though you can bet I'll be bangin on the hospital door. ;)
