Obama is much more than the first black president. He represents the dreams of people of many different ages and ethnicities here and around the world. He stands on the shouleders of many who came before him. One of those was MLK.

Here's what I'm having difficulty figuring out - is the Obama administration trying to sell him as hope personified, or as the object of hope, or as a person who inspires hope? I ask because I don't know exactly what to think about an iconic three-color stylized poster of the President with the caption "HOPE" on it. http://www.amazon.com/Barack-Poster-Shepard-Fairey-standard/dp/B001KNW0K4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1232475986&sr=8-1

Oh. I see. Because we have elected a Black President, you were recalling MLK's speech and making the observation that we've come a long way towards racial equality and social justice since MLK's day. I wholeheartedly agree. I was simply thrown off by the timing of the comment. It appeared to me like it was a harkening back to a great Black leader and his inspirational speech and making a comparison to a new black leader and his inauguration speech.

No, roger. I am not comparing the President to MLK. That is a quote from MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech at the heigth of the civil rights movement. Perhaps the most powerful speech ever given in this country. MLK was looking forward to the time when we "will live in a nation where [we] will be not be judged by the color of [our] skin but the content of [our] character." That day is much closer than it was in 1963.

I wonder who the first Republican President of the United States invited to his inauguration. Remember, old number 16 (Lincoln) was a big spender and backed big business (particularly the railroads). He probably heard from the day's equivalent to U2, Beyonce, James Taylor, Usher and Garth Brooks.

I'm not too worried about the cost of this inauguration. It is going to lift a lot of spirits and America could use a bit of that. I am looking forward to watching the new President speak tomorrow. porn will always be a significant presence on the internet and significant revenue driver. but that simply reinforces my point about social networking being the killer app for the internet. people need social interaction - to feel a connection to others, to be accepted by others, to feel wanted. that's why we post on this page. porn is just a perversion of that need, in the same way that non-internet adult entertainment is (although internet is easier and "safer" for the participant).

An example of where the internet is headed: http://tilimi.com/ This application (brand new and in the alpha test stage) allows ad-hoc groups of users to set up something like a press-to-talk multi-party communication network. So you could, for example, you could tell your friends to meet you online at 3pm on Channel 15.40, for a group chat. When you press a key to talk, everyone else on that channel can hear you. When you let go of the key, someone else can talk, etc.

I'm at a dunn bros near the mpls airport. there is a flight attendent chick here in full uniform and a dude with her. From my observation point about 20 feet away, this dude gets action whenever she's in town.

E, is that level 7 for rando-GAY skiing? If so, you may give dutch oven a whole new meaning. ;-)

Well, just drove back from O'Hare. A certain offspring is on her way to Dulles, then to Bethesda to hang out with her college room mates from last year. Apparently, there is some reason for them to be in D.C. on Tuesday. Kids, I tell ya!

So, I'm looking out my loft window onto Mears Park. All the trees are bare so all you see are tons of branches from all these trees intermingling with each other. Right now, I see squirrels happily jumping allllll over the place from tree to tree and playin on the ground. I think they are totally enjoying the above 0 temperatures :)

Another thing he liked to do was after football practice, take off his smelly sweaty then unsuspectingly hold them up in our faces (like smushed up against our nose so we couldn't escape). They smelled like Cap'n Crunch. It was gross.

When us girls were little (me and my two sisters) my brother would wrestle us (he was 5 years older than me so when I was 8 he was like 13, not the fairest of matches) get us in a headlock between his legs and then fart...and not let us go. Pretty much a dutch oven without the blanket.

Repost for Alynn: Doesn't the ASPCA frown on that? I had to google the term because I wasn't familiar with it : Dutch oven - a term describing when you fart and hold your partners head under the covers.
