I remember waking up in a log cabin in Tahoe after it snowed when I was 23. The driveway was not readily usable so I built a fire and read a book for a coulple days. The sun eventually did was it was supposed to (warm things up). I thought shovels were used made to plant rose bushes and trees.

And, Boop, an extra pair of compression shorts as the very first layer helps, too. I had on compressions, tights and then a pair of thicker running pants on the bottom with 2 pairs of thin wool socks. My thighs were kinda red after, but not really painful like they can get.

Boop, cold wind cuts right through tights. If you're going to do this regularly get some goretex pants--you can use them bare legged in the rain and over tights in the cold. Those polar insulated bottles will keep your water liquid in the cold and keep your water cold in the summer. When it's really cold you need a thermos.

tina, the reason you don't freeze your lungs is because by the time the air hits lung tissue it's been warmed up to body temperature. Of course, it can't get any warmer than your core temp so you'll freeze your body before you freeze your lungs.

I said at the start that mine would never freeze since I was holding it so it would slosh around and couldn't freeze. Goes to show you how much I know! At the 5 mile mark I had a giant ice cube in the water. By the end of the run, the plastic bottle had frozen and I had all kinds of ice in it. Hilarious! :-)

Sharon and I ran 10 miles this a.m. We were going to go further but we were both too cold. It was 8 degrees. Rayman would be proud - this time I had both pairs of tights on and 3 layers on top. Al Lindner on Angling Edge, lives in Brainard, MN, but he is originally from Chicago. At the end of his show, he always has a Biblical moment. How come triathlon doesn't use a ball. I mean, most other sports have a ball. Football, soccer, basketball, baseball, polo and water polo, golf, tennis, lacrosse, jai a'lai, bowling, etc. All they let triathletes do is throw waterbottles into nets, kind of like hockey, eh? So I asked what her ball gown looked like, in case we saw her at one of the big shindigs. As Boop responded, my brain froze up. I don't think guys' brains can handle that stuff for some reason. I was out on a ride today listening to "The Youngbloods" doing' "GET TOGETHER" on my iPOD. They were one of the best in their era. Jesse Colin Young (Vocals, bass), Jerry Corbitt (lead guitar), Lowell Levinger (rhythm guitar), and Joe Bauer (drums). Made me think of my Isla Vista teenage years and the guy, FFO. Wouldn't be surprised if he wandered the UC campus in Santa Barbara a bit back in the day looking for some free love or social justice. Maybe even attended a concert or two at Robertson gym, hung out at a 6hr Dead concert at "Day at the Green" at the same time KP did or bought a used silky at "Yellowstone Clothing" in IV. I don't think it's such a big deal to swim through jet fuel. Just look at ol' Bruce. He's been swimming in oil for years down there and look at him!! . . . Oh. I guess I do see your point.

Don't worry about BOOP Laura, I hear she's taking the opportunity to get a 2 mile swim in before leaving for DC.
