Howdy, Tina, JD! When I think compression socks, I get this mental image of Will Farrel in the short basketball shorts, headband and wristband. :-) But, garters would be a fashion-forward touch..

Funny how the conistent people take off but the inconsistent ones show up. I always get a kick out of the new years resolution people. They come in for the first week of the year and then a week later its like back to normal again. 8)

I'm running at least 5K every day (100 days challenge etc.) training for Eugene and Rock and Roll. Just silly to pay to run a workout. I'll pay for a good half mary. The reason I say I'm contemplating becoming a 'sister' and not a 'nun' is that from what I understand, being a sister is giving your life over to God, but you're not out there as a 'god expert' or have the nun stereotype thing goin'....I would just be living my life as I would (working on global poverty or whatever 'He' wants me to...i.e. what I feel he calls me to do), but I'm not all quoting verse or anything...or having to talk about freekin CHURCH HISTORY!!! I'm a doer...not a preacher/talker person. I don't want to convert anyone..I just want to live. If someone is inspired by that and asks me questions, great, but I'm not going out of my way to preach :)

tina, remember what it's like to try and read with your eyes dilated like this. Blurry, hard to focus--this is what presbyopia will look like in a few years, Lasik or not. ;-)

The Aero 3000 works on a highly complex principle--you cut your favorite weather conditions out of the local paper in August and tape them to the display screen. Then, you have perfect conditions at all times.

tina of @ email: @
OK, typing this with dialated eyes...(not easy!). The decision is being left up to the performing surgeon. My farsightedness perscription is such that we would be bumping up on the very edge of what they deem 'allowable' for surgery. They can do it with the machine they have but it leaves little if no room for any further adjustments if needed. I'll find out before the 31st.

tina, presbyopia is the change that occurs in the eye with age as early as late 30's more commonly in 40s-50s. It's why we find we need longer arms to read. So, correcting the vision for distance may require you to use reading glasses. Our busiest opthalmologist who does the largest number of Lasik procedures and has the highest satisfaction rate with least number of poor outcomes in the area wears bifocals. Food for thought.

tina, it would have been a good decision a few years back but now that presbyopia is creeping up on you, maybe not so much. You can fix the myopia but you'll eventually need reading glasses. And don't let them talk you into monovision, one eye for close and one eye for far because that f*cks up your depth perception.

168776: actually, my plan (although I am taking three years to think this through and research it more) is to do the 'sister' thing. From what I understand, being a sister is more a 'out in the world' sorta thing, living life quasi-normally, whereas a nun is like the nunnery thing which is not for me. The commonality between the two is that you wholly devote your life to God and His plans for you :)

Merry Christmas all! As evidence of global merging, we just made our annual Spanish paella, (been making it for 20 years now), complete with mussels, shrimp, chorizo, chicken and aborio rice: remarkably, all ingredients found in South Dakota. Five years ago, no way could I have found the ingredients up here. A little California Bogle Petite Syriah to complement. Finish off with some old style Christmas cookies. Yep. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my neice and nephew! My 11 year old nephew and I will be having a chat about his "official girlfriend".

I procrastinated taking a family picture this year, so I'm flaking out on sending Christmas cards. So Merry Christmas everyone. Even though you're not getting a card from me in the mail, I'm still wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season.
