One of the cockpit instruments shows where you are in relation to the thermal once you start thermalling (based on rate of climb as you go around in circles). I tried not to use it except when I totally lost the thermal. It was neat seeing where I flew in relation to where it was - all over the place. Just like for REALS! ;-)

There's this feature that lets you see where the thermals are generating from, and where they are in the air, that came in helpful a couple of times.

Been on two HOA's. Trying to insert logic, process and budget management was futile. I ended up selling both places largely because of the board. As it came to pass both developments ended up being a dark hole for sellers because word got out in the Realty community that they (the HOA's)were completely nuts.

for informational purposes for Swoosh, while I have no kids (the dogs don't count eh?), I just emailed my friend from H.S. who still teaches at our H.S. They are still required to take PE (no exemption for sports), along with 4 units of english, math, science, 2 units of foreign language, and they have to pass drivers ed to get their diploma. In fact, when I was there last year for my 25 year reunion, we saw they still had the same driving simulators WE used in about 1980 (shifter on the steering column, needle gauge for the speedometer, etc.) Things don't change much in the Chicago burbs :-)

I married into a family that is a magnet for legal confrontations. Last night, I spent an hour and a half at a local HOA board meeting trying to convince the board that it would be wrong to impose certain fines on my mother-in-law's property. I at least convinced them that before they do, they should ask their lawyer to talk to me so that he could explain it to them since they didn't seem to think that they were bound by the CC&Rs but that a popular vote was all that was needed. Not to mention the fact that it was revealed that the HOA board had used HOA fees ($2,500) to settle a private lawsuit unrelated to the HOA. I know it is a cliche that self-righteous HOA board Nazis tend to do dumb and illegal things, but apparently this HOA board hasn't yet grasped the concept that stealing is wrong, even if it is for what they think is a good cause. ;-)

Then, in college, she swam collegiate until junior year of College when health issues sidelined her. Practices there were 2x daily, plus dry land. Now, she is desk-bound and I am urging her to go back to the pool and get back in the water!:-)

Think of it this way: you are all the winners of the winners of history. You are here because each and every one of your ancestors, without a single exception, over a million years of human history, was strong enough or cunning enough or otherwise lucky enough to out-compete or out-maneuver or otherwise out-do every single obstacle, whether person or environment or animal, that stood in the way of conceiving, birthing and ensuring the survival to adulthood of every subsequent generation of your ancestors. You and your direct ancestors are part of a winning team that has a combined winning record of something on the order of a 1,000,000 wins and 0 losses. :-)

I love those Pro Tour jokers. Team Columbia is based in San Luis Obispo where it's 70 and sunny with excellent cycling conditions. Team Columbia just travelled to Mallorca for a training camp. NECESSARY.

I'm totally stoked. I set a new PR today. I totally crushed my previous personal best for total number of days on this planet, with a whopping 15,038 days. And if all goes well, I'm on track to bust that record wide open tomorrow!! WOOOHOOO!!! :-)
