Cooking some pasta Ameritrice: olive oil with 4 cloves of smashed garlic, a chopped onion, 28 oz crushed plum tomatoes, hot red pepper flakes, a grinding of sea salt. Simmer for 30 min. In the meantime, prepare some spaghetti, combine with the sauce and top with Romano. But, wouldn't mind some of JD's venison, say a tenderloin, rubbed with garlic and grilled...:-)

Garlic in cooking is wonderful! Just be careful not to store garlic in oil at room temp..run the risk of botulism,if you make an olive oil and garlic infusion or mix, use it right then and there. :-)

Hubby mixes roasted garlic with butter and makes a rocking garlic bread. You can also use it on pizza, bruschetta or just spread it on a cracker. It's very sweet and really yummy. One of our fave things to do is to get a good Italian bread cut in slices and spread roasted garlic on each slice. Drizzle with olive oil and a bit of balsamic vinegar. Top with parmesean. Put it under the broiler for a few minutes and you'll hate me for introducing you to this cuz it's addictive. You could also use a little goat cheese, panchetta, or whatever else floats your boat.

Roasted garlic: Take a couple of whole heads of garlic. Lop off the tops so you can see all of the cloves. Put 'em stem side down in a baking dish. Drizzle very liberally with olice oil. Throw some salt and pepper over it. Put it in the oven at, say, 400 or 425. Bake for 45 min or so. (I bake mine covered, but I dunno if it matters.) It's done when the cloves start popping out and when you stick a fork in the cloves, they should be really soft. Let it cool for a while, otherwise they are napalm. You should be aable to just squeeze the head from the bottom and the cloves will come right out.

I got a bunch of kitchen gear soasta learn myself how to cook stuff...last weekend's lesson- garlic. I've put gobbs of garlic in everything I've cooked oer the years and love it. HOWEVER, if you really want strong garlic then take yer garlic cloves and thinly slice them vertically with a very sharp knife instead of chopping or smashing them. Then brown the thin slices in some olive oil until they are basically shriveled and crispy. Then remove all solid garlic peices remaining and use the olive oil/garlic as your base to brown whatever else yer cooking like pasta sauce, pizza souce, etc. I've had garlic pouring outta my pores fer three days now! strong method fr sure

my reaction to finman, other than sadness that he may have ruined his own IM experience, is that he relied way too much on a training aid to the point that he prolly thought he could not complete the swim segment without his little baby blanket swim fins as comfort. It's 26 from SB house-to-q: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/1301768 It's 35-ish from Vista house to Morena trolly stop (didn't have the garmin 405 when I did that one, once I did it for a night game, the other time I had to leave at like 5am to make sure I got there on time.) I've never done the entire trip on foot (Vista to Q without taking the trolly). That might be a fun goal sometime. But Friar's road is kinda sucky, and the trolly is $2.50, and I'm really not against public transportation in any way, I am just semi-anti-driving-and-paying-for-parking-and-missing-workouts and stuff. From my front door to the Morena trolly stop is 21 miles, almost an ideal Sunday run really. I slacked and took a break for food on Sunday since I needed to make sure I didn't bonk too bad on Friar's. More fun to just bust through the first 21 in about 3:00 or so, grab some drinks from the vending machine and hop on the trolly to the parking lot. But I had to make this last one "legit" for KUSI and 91x so nobody would call me out as a wuss.

Crazy Dave, the dude that runs from his home in Solana Beach to the Q for every Chargers home game, called in to explain why he would do that for anything less than constant glory. Dave asked, “Why not? We live in the most beautiful city in the country.” Mat began to feel bad about the fact that Dave runs nearly four hours, while Mat just wakes up and crawls to the trolley for a 10 minute ride. Mat imagined how a lady would respond to Dave; “I’m running 35 miles to a football game, wanna hop on?” Once he gets there, he pounds beers and grubs on In N Out. So: Mat pointed out that he is not a fitness Nazi, he just loves running. He does find a ride home after the game as he is often much too drunk to run home in the dark. Mahoney lives three miles from the Q. Mat challenged him to run to the next game. It would be downhill the entire way. Mahoney was not enthused.

Haaa! Friggin Easaman. One time, that guy dropped me on the Long Hill like I was standing still. He didnt even give me so much as a pat on the ass as he grabbed the big cookie and left me for dead. I wish I was Easa.
