My election results strategy- Obama wins then I have a ray of hope for change even if it is jus incremental change at the center and not some big massiac landslide of recovery and saneness that some Repub people seem to think we are expecting by voting for him. If McCain wins then even the small bit of hope that I've nurtured during the Bush years will be extinguished and I will kill my tv and no longer participate in this sham of government by going off grid and focussing on my own neighborhood and fellow townspeople.

noel, I think you are spot on. Have you read the text of the Moyer interview with Andrew J. Bacevich, author of the book "Limits of Power"? An excerpt: "Beginning with the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960, the occupant of the White House has become a combination of demigod, father figure and, inevitably, the betrayer of inflated hopes. Pope. Pop star. Scold. Scapegoat. Crisis manager. Commander in Chief. Agenda settler. Moral philosopher. Interpreter of the nation's charisma. Object of veneration. And the butt of jokes. All rolled into one." Below is the link if you are interested. A thought provoking interview. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/08152008/watch.html

If pressed, I couldn't differentiate one candidate's platform from another, aside from left / right cliches. Yet many voters are lemmingly passionate in their idol worship or hero worship, (depending on your side of the aisle). Elections are as much American Idol as they empart political idealogy. We ask for steak, we're sold the sizzle. As Voltaire said: "He who has not the spirit of this age, has all the misery of it." Anyone else share my misery?

I thought their response was to just give it away to everyone. The law is apparently that people cannot be given anything of value in order to essentially be paid for voting (no problem for me since I don't think Sbux is worth anything) As a Seattlelite I am afraid I have sold my soul to the devil. I like Peets :-(. And there's a Peets 1/4 mile away from the boat.

The thing about x-ray of ribs, feet (ankles) and hands (wrist) is that occult fractures may not show up for 2-4wks. I have had complete rib fracture and surgical wrist fracture missed on initial examination. That's why so many docs assume there may be fracture. Don't underestimate your tolerance for pain. I would limit initial activity (weight bearing) to allow callous formation of possible occult fx.

Smashed into an uneven concrete sidewalk while wearing flip flops. No fractures (after about 10 x-rays....I may light up from within soon), just a badly sprained and bruised toe. At least that's the preliminary (haven't talked to the doctor). I think I can walk on the treadmill with the boot and some duct tape to the pedal, I'm sure I can ride the trainer. And swim.

Vimp - not sure of my MO choice just yet - being the wild west, I lean towards the horseshoe. Had a big MOvember 1st party at my pizza place the other night. We have killer "MOvember Competitor" shirts that we are selling for charity.

No Grant Park for me tomorrow night. Lil too crazy for this kid. Besides, work issued a "silver alert" due to possible impromptu transit schedule changes, road closures, riot police state, crap like that.

Tell me about it Hanley! Under the thumb! I'm all like "can I go to the beach" and I get a "no, clean the house" and I'm all like "OK". It's a slippery slope my friend!

Yeah Vimpy man, a wet board is a happy board. Martin used to surf before he got married. Now, he's all 'please honey? please please please?' Married dudes--what a bunch of wusses, RIGHT?

Now that DST is over, it's getting dark too soon! Sunset at 5:05 pm. Yikes. We at the higher latitudes get spoiled with the long summer days, and it seems like a gyp to only have 12 hours of light right now. Luckily it gets worse over the next couple of months... ;-)

Hanley, you know what hurts me more than seeing bikes in bits? Seeing my boards hanging on the wall! GAWD!! They should be in the back of the ute all the time ready to go at the drop of the hat!

Our governor may lose to a person whose last ad was 30 seconds of a baby with ever increasing load in his diapers. Saying she has increasing baggage as governor. Now that's intelligent political discourse...basically saying the governor is full of $hit.

Dude, Corn looks at my garage and gets this sorta frozen smile look on his face. I can tell it hurts him deeply to see garage and bicycles in that state of affairs.

Not sure I follow your foreign vernacular Vigglesworth. Keep that up and you'll lose your US territory status. Talk American.
