Lake fleece lined cycling boots, ride into the wind starting out, wind on back on way home. In harsh conditions: 3-4 hour Computrainer is no big thing. Michael McCormack sessions on the bike worked for me. But, xc training gives a huge base of endurance, work the trainer to keep the cycling legs. FWIW.

Below the waist briefs with windscreen material (make sure to orient them with the windscreen material in the front because your johnson will never forgive you for the frostbite), then long bibs and if it's really cold, goretex pants on top. Smartwool heavy socks and Lake winter boots. On top, base layer, polypropylene or similar, winter longsleeved jersey, vest, then goretex shell. Balaclava to match the weather, thin for not so cold, thick for freezing. Am-Fib gloves for not so cold, Lobster gloves for fcking freezing. Ride yer ass off, yer welcome.

Do not wear biking shoes because there is no oxygen in them (ie. they fit tight especially with socks) so your feet freeze up right away no matter what you do.....(con't)
