I have a slightly different understanding of Buddhism. We are not seperate from god, and being good doesn't make us god. God is all, and we are all god now. As is the chair you are sitting on, the bike you ride, the water in the pool. Its not an external concept "over there concept" being "good" is irrelevent. Concepts of good and evil (i.e some kind of external measurement, judgment) are actually western mental barriers to living within and experiencing our godness in the moment. Its like when you are bonking in the later hours of an ironman. When you transcend the "this sucks, I suck, this is great, I've never run so fast" and get to simply putting one foot forward at a time, and let go and simply move. Breathing. mentally checked out. Neither good or bad, simply moving. Then you know a sense of the godness that duddhism speaks of.

Aw, hell. Here's what I think of Buddhism. I think Buddhism stands for the proposition that by being a really good person, and thinking really hard about why, you can become God. I disagree with that proposition. Moreover, I think it bears a strong resemblance to the story of the serpent in the Garden of Eden, telling Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of wisdom, and thereby gain enlightenment and become gods themselves. Pretty sure I disagree with that one, too. ;-)

met the luckiest girl in the world tonight...fire call, she ran off the road and took out a line of large wooden fence posts. Three of them impaled the front of her truck, one of em went through the windshield and came to rest just left of the driver's headrest right where her head should have been...she had a sore neck and a bruised left lip...had she fell asleep or passed out leftward instead of rightward she would not have anything above the neck and would be at the morgue and not the emergency room...literally a matter of fractions of an inch....LUCKY, LUCKY, LUCKY GIRL! I remember it's the only time I didn't change into running shorts, and wore my bike shorts. Bad idea. I was sooooo hot, I ran into the lake and sat down in the water to try cooling off. Very quickly thereafter, I started chafing. Then it got worse. And worse. And worse. It was like trying to walk / run with an absolutely full diaper. I was walking / running like I was sitting on a horse. It took about two weeks for the seeping scabs to heal. I'VE GOT PICTURES!

Smithsonian Institute 207 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, DC 20078 Dear Sir: Thank you for your latest submission to the Institute, labeled "93211- D, layer seven, next to the clothesline post, Hominid skull." We have given this specimen a careful and detailed examination, and regret to inform you that we disagree with your theory that it represents conclusive proof of the presence of Early Man in Charleston County two million years ago. Rather, it appears that what you have found is the head of a Barbie doll, of the variety one of our staff, who has small children, believes to be "Malibu Barbie." It is evident that you have given a great deal of thought to the analysis of this specimen, and you may be quite certain that those of us who are familiar with your prior work in the field were loathe to come to contradiction with your findings. However, we do feel that there are a number of physical attributes of the specimen which might have tipped you off to its modern origin: 1. The material is moulded plastic. Ancient hominid remains are typically fossilized bone. 2. The cranial capacity of the specimen is approximately 9 cubic centimetres, well below the threshold of even the earliest identified proto-homonids. 3. The dentition pattern evident on the skull is more consistent with the common domesticated dog than it is with the ravenous man-eating Pliocene clams you speculate roamed the wetlands during that time. This latter finding is certainly one of the most intriguing hypotheses you have submitted in your history with this institution, but the evidence seems to weigh rather heavily against it. Without going into too much detail, let us say that: A. The specimen looks like the head of a Barbie doll that a dog has chewed on. B. Clams don't have teeth. It is with feelings tinged with melancholy that we must deny your request to have the specimen carbon dated. This is partially due to the heavy load our lab must bear in its normal operation, and partly due to carbon dating's notorious inaccuracy in fossils of recent geologic record. To the best of our knowledge, no Barbie dolls were produced prior to 1956 AD, and carbon dating is likely to produce wildly inaccurate results. Sadly, we must also deny your request that we approach the National Science Foundation Phylogeny Department with the concept of assigning your specimen the scientific name Australopithecus spiff-arino. Speaking personally, I, for one, fought tenaciously for the acceptance of your proposed taxonomy, but was ultimately voted down because the species name you selected was hyphenated, and didn't really sound like it might be Latin in origin. However, we gladly accept your generous donation of this fascinating specimen to the museum. While it is undoubtedly not a Hominid fossil, it is, nonetheless, yet another riveting example of the great body of work youseem to accumulate here so effortlessly. You should know that our Director has reserved a special shelf in his own office for the display of the specimens you have previously submitted to the Institute, and the entire staff speculates daily on what you will happen upon next in your digs at the site you have discovered in your back yard. We eagerly anticipate your trip to our nation's capital that you proposed in your last letter, and several of us are pressing the Director to pay for it. We are particularly interested in hearing you expand on your theories surrounding the trans-positating infiltration of ferrous ions in a structural matrix that makes the excellent juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex femur you recently discovered take on the deceptive appearance of a rusty 9-mm Sears Craftsman automotive crescent wrench. Yours in Science, Harvey Rowe Curator, Antiquities John Broomhall http://www.datanet.ab.ca/users/jbroom (Slepcev and Fieseler Storch web page)

I thought you all might enjoy this. This is truely remarkable and especially well written. The story behind the letter below is that there is this nut who digs things out of his back yard and sends the stuff he finds to the Smithsonian Institute, labeling them with scientific names, insisting that they are actual archaeological finds. This guy really exists and does this in his spare time! Anyway... here's the actual response from the Smithsonian Institute. Bear this in mind next time you think you are challenged in your duty to respond to a difficult situation in writing.

I tend to error on the conservative side. Like If I'm building an airplane. I would not want to make it out of paper for the sake of making it as light as possible. Basic design principle: Plan for the worst, hope for the best. I use the worst case scenario in every design I look at so in the event it does see something catasrophic it will survive due to it being inherent by design. I really got nothing against Obama I just think he is a little too on the paper side of building an airplane. 8)

Noel, you are not the first hack musician to be befuddled by Blackbird. Although the melody is simple and the harmony is easy, rhythmically it is a difficult piece. The first part of the song starts 3/4 shifts to 3/2 then 4/4, the 2/4 then 3/4 to repeat. The Blackbird fly...refrain begins 4/4 then shifts 2/4, 3/4/ 4/4,3/2, 2/4, 4/4,2/4,3/4,4/4, 3/4,2/4,3/4, 4/4, 3/4,2/4 before returning to the opening.
