that's a great story, kp! Scrote was a pretty good guy. I hope his son is just like him. I only met him once at that party in Dana Point after IMCal 01.

li'l kp is a senior and watching out for Buckshot (Britty) the freshman. She invites him to some parties and asks her older guy pals to include him in intramural baseball; assuring them he has game. Little do the guys know, Kelly knows Brit is like Scott -- a natural stud athlete in every sport (seriously). First game Brit drives in the winning runs with a monster shot that is still rolling somewhere in left field. Brits doing okay.

I've been thinking a lot about the Scott recently. Lots of reasons, but one of the more humorous follows: my older daughter goes to the same university I went to. Same one Scott went to. Same university in which I lived with and matriculated with Scrote. Same one Scott's Dad went to. Same one where my youngest daughter is a freshman. So, on the first day of school, the youngest Purcell is sitting in class next to this hot guy. After repeated eye contact, the handsome young man asks her name. They crack up because they know each other but haven't seen one another recently. The new guy is Scott's son Brit. They share lunch. Scrotelicker's comments would be humerous if he were here :-)

Yo E-train - did you intentionally leave Jamis and QR off your list? From what I saw at Interbike, they are definitely noteworthy. The new QR frame is very interesting, and due out March 1st (I think...it may be April 1st). Jamis will have more stock this year, as they were so popular last year they sold out their entire inventory on the Xenith frames.

As for real truths, well, we lost our farm, but we still have our cottage. We lost one job, but the future looks bright in health care. Got no money, it's beans and rice, but we have our health and contentment. May not be able to ever ride a bike at EC level, but the walks down to the lake with the dog are fine on a fall day and bike fitness for now is only a few winter Computrainer sessions away. And, finally, there always is the Page. Now, that's the real truth. :-)

Truth? the real truth is in molecular structure baby! We are all just a bunch of base pairs stuck into some DNA and then later into amino acids. At least that is what my biochem prof says and 6 hours that it took to write up a formal lab report on molecular changes on this fine fall day. Blinded me by science once again!

How about opening up. There is far too much anger in the world. Einstein wrote about his faith in a paper entitled "What I Believe". In it he said "The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand in rapt awe, is as good as dead, a snuffed-out candle. To sense that behind anything that can be experienced there is something that our minds cannot grasp, whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly: this is religiousness." He was a spiritual man, and believed in helping his fellow man. So do all of my friends and family who are spiritual. Some of them are religious, some are not.

Keating: We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless--of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life? Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse." That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?

"Deteriorata"You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here. Deteriorata, Deteriorata) Go placidly amidst the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof. Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep. Rotate your tires. Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself; and heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys. Know what to kiss - and when. Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do. Wherever possible, put people on hold. Be comforted, that in the face of all irridity and disillusionment, and despite the changing fortunes of time, there is always a big future in computer maintenance

That's when the "faith" word starts to get thrown about. At this point in life I seek to study religions not follow any. Buddhism is my current curiosity because in general it doesn't seem to be a religion so much as just a search, an understanding, and a letting go

If there is such a thing as truth, then there is such a thing as absolute truth. Why? Because in order for something to be relatively more true than something else, the two things have to be compared to each other on some scale. At one end of that scale is absolute truth and at the other end is absolute falsehood. QED. So although all "religions" might be less than absolutely right, it is not possible for two different "religions" to be absolutely right. The fact that they are different is proof that they can't both be absolute truth, because there is only one absolute truth. Otherwise, there is no such thing as truth. But I can eliminate the possibility that there is no such thing as truth because I can fashion a lie. The problem comes when people believe that either they know the absolute truth (which isn't possible unless they themselves are the source of that absolute truth), or that there is no such thing as absolute truth and so all things are equally true. Go chew on that for a while. Or not. Remember, these words are just some charged transistors sitting on a little computer somewhere in Canada. :-)
