I think McCain's biggest downfall is that he just doesn't realize how much information people have access to as a result of the internet (dude's 72!) and how powerful the internet is in organizing people, passing along info, etc.

I feel that they can now at least play McCain next to the Nixon debate with Kennedy for examples of what not to do when yer losing yer shorts in an election and have no options but to look silly and angry on your last ditch debate effort. Friggen classic mang! 93% of communication is body language. McCain's body language spoke volumes

E, etal: It's ok to be passionate about politics, but not fanatical. A passionate person deeply cares about their causes. A fanatic believes in only us versus them; my team is better than your team. This might be fine for good natured sports ribbing, but in politics it divides people. And at this time especially, we should seek the common ground and the high road. IMHO

You wanna know reason #412 why I can't trust McCain? Remember when he first said Joe the Plumber's last name- Wurzelbacher? McCain for an instant looked at the camera and had a very slight pause where he made it seem like he was "remembering" the Plumber's name from news footage or some story. He looked at the camera briefly like "whew, I actually didn't butcher that name very badly and actually rememebred it, unlike Achmenajedad...". Well, at that moment I thought he was just showing a very brief moment of hamming it up. Then he goes on to base half his debate on Joe the Plumber and made it very clear that almost all his debate prep was centered on that premise...AND HE HAD A FRIGGEN NOTE PAD IN FRONT OF HIM WITH ALL THE GAWD DAMMED POINTS! sO WHAT THIS TELLS ME IS THAT INSTEAD OF HIM HAMMING IT UP ABOUT BEING ABLE TO PRONOUNCE THE pLUMBER'S LAST NAME HE WAS INSTEAD ACTING THAT HE WAS PULLING THE NAME OUT OF THE AIR AND WANTED IT TO SEEM NATURAL OR SPONTANEOUS! WELL IT DIDN'T FRIGGEN WORK MANG! NO VOTE FER YOU SAD OLD MAN I'VE SEEN THIS ACT BEFORE! FOOL ME ONCE AND WELL CAN'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!!!!!!!

I'm really proud of what I've accomplished this year: Just about aced all the written exams, went Solo, Re-Licenced, transitioned through two more higher performance gliders, 1000m, 3000m, and 5000m altitude climbs, possible highest flight (sort of), and my first outlanding (landing in a farmer's field last Thursday when I couldn't make it back to the airfield). Look out, Guys... Here I come... ;;-)

Phil and Tony (awards chair) are probably the two most accomplished cross-country glider pilots in our club. Tony has held a couple of dozen Canadian gliding rcords over the years, and currently holds about 5. They made the comment that they had never seen someone (me) with as much intense determination to become X-C certified in such a short time. Not bad for only getting back into this sport late last August.

I was in Cowley this morning assisting in launching the last two gliders on their way back to our club. Any guess as to who was in the truck with me? Phil (he of the higher flight), and the awards committee chairman. The chairman said that since it wasn't an ~official~ Diamond flight claim, Phil's evidence would be taken into account as possible verification. I'm glad they are supporting my flight, but I really wish Phil had a data logger. 28,000' is friggen high, and he is the one who really deserves it. The chairman said some sort of verification was neccesary, because anyone could then say they reached, for example, 28,000'. Personally, I believe everyone else also believes Phil is above reproach, and would love for him to win the award again - for about the 5th time.

On the other hand, he is pushing hard for my flight to be recognized as the highest. He was in the glider about 1000' below when I was over 26,000'. His glider that day had a data logger, and could verify his height. Then, he and his passenger are vouching to the ~awards committee~ that the photo they took WAS me above them, etc....

My 26,200' flight last week was trumped by my friend (with whom I shared last year's highest flight) on Monday down in Cowley. He reached 28,000' ASL and was still climbing at between 400 and 600 fpm. It would have been a great day to try for the all-time Canadian glider altitude record, which is 34,000' and change. Unfortunately, he couldn't on two counts: First, no data logger (figures) and Second, the Area Control Centre requires two hours prior notice prior to us climbing through 28,000'. That allows them to reroute airline traffic around our Block Airspace.
