But, when I spoke, I made sure to say that I was not 'for' or 'against' the program moving into the neighborhood, but that I was just there to hopefully at least get rid of stereotypical thinking in the decision process (neighbors thought with the program coming in, their community would become 'unsafe' for their children and some actually even had written they feared we would break into their homes... nice. :(

Manny - Note that if you want to spend the night at Phantom Ranch you need to book WAY in advance. The north rim is ~1000 ft higher than the south rim so north to south is a bit easier than south to north. Also there is more to do at the south rim so depending on whether you want to spend an extra day before or after that might effect your directional thinking. They have added a number of extra water stops on the Bright Angel so that may be a better side of the canyon to be on in the afternoon. For South to North as a walk jog type trip it took us about 7 and a half hours. That's without a pack, just cammel backs, snacks and an extra windbreaker. Its really fabulous, I would do it again in a flash.

Exact same thing happened with my wife's aunt who was a spinstress penny-pincher with lots of oil company stocks from a job she held since the 40's. Lived a frugal, modest life. Left an eight figure estate, most of it donated to charity. God loves humility and sobriety.

Baywatch mang! I liked when they were on that big powerboat and would cut back and forth to make it look like they'd dive off that thing at 60mph.
